What prairie-hardy actually means

We grow for Alberta winters: sudden cold, drying wind, and summers that can go from flood to drought. A plant that is “hardy” in a catalogue may still fail on an exposed yard if it was grown in a milder climate.

That is why we favour stock produced on the prairies. It has already lived our seasons. We also match species to the site—wet corner, south wall, shelterbelt, or clay that never drains.

Ask us about zone, but also about salt, gophers, deer, and how much you actually want to water in July. Honest placement beats a pretty tag.

New varieties come in every year. We trial them in our own rows before we sell them as prairie-ready.
